As a medical virtual assistant in patient care, I have the responsibility in managing patient inquiries, scheduling appointments, and ensuring seamless communication between patients and healthcare providers. As I develop and hone my skills in this field I have gained an insight of the importance of clear communication, timely action, and empathy in delivering effective virtual care to patients.

As a medical virtual assistant I am aware of the HIPAA and I am responsible for ensuring the confidentiality and security of patient information in a healthcare setting. I learned the importance of safeguarding protected health information (PHI) through strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines.

As a beginner medical coder with no prior experience, I started my journey by learning the fundamentals of medical coding through online courses and training. My first task was to assist in reviewing patient records and assigning the appropriate ICD-10 codes under the guidance of a mentor. At first, it was challenging to understand the nuances of different diagnoses and procedures, but with each assignment, I grew more confident. I spent extra time cross-referencing codes, reviewing coding manuals, and asking questions when unsure. Over time, I gained a better understanding of how accurate coding impacts billing, insurance claims, and patient care. This experience taught me the importance of attention to detail, persistence, and continuous learning in the field of medical coding.
