After seven years of education and earning my CPA, I moved into a cost and financial accountant role. I shifted from public accounting, where I gained experience in auditing and tax, to focusing on cost analysis, budgeting, and forecasting in a corporate setting. Over time, I developed strong analytical skills, became proficient in financial software, and began mentoring junior accountants while advising on business strategy.

As a side hustle, I help small businesses with QuickBooks by providing bookkeeping, financial reporting, and tax preparation services. I set up accounts, reconcile transactions, and generate key reports like profit and loss statements. It’s been a great way to apply my accounting skills and help businesses manage their finances more effectively.

In my cost accounting experience, I’ve been responsible for tracking production costs, allocating expenses, and analyzing cost structures. I worked on calculating cost of goods sold (COGS), conducting variance analysis to identify cost discrepancies, and providing insights for budgeting and pricing decisions. For Word, I create detailed financial reports, proposals, and documentation. In PowerPoint, I design presentations to communicate financial insights and strategies to stakeholders. I also use Outlook for scheduling and email management, and OneDrive for file sharing and collaboration across teams. These tools help me streamline workflows and improve productivity in my day-to-day tasks.
