During my recent duty at the pediatric ward as a student nurse, I was assigned to observe and assess a 5-year-old patient diagnosed with acute bronchitis. My role included taking the patient’s vital signs, observing respiratory patterns, and recording any changes in symptoms. I conducted a thorough assessment, checking for signs of labored breathing, abnormal lung sounds, and monitoring the patient’s oxygen levels. After collecting the data, I collaborated with the other nursing students and with the staff of the hospital to review the patient's treatment plan, which included nebulization therapy, antibiotics, and increased fluid intake. I also communicated with the patient's parents, explaining the condition in simple terms and providing reassurance about the treatment process. From this case, I learned the importance of early intervention in respiratory illnesses and how effective patient education can lead to better cooperation from family members. Writing the case study allowed me to connect theoretical knowledge to real-world practice, focusing on patient-centered care.
