After obtaining a degree in Bachelor of Mass Communication from Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila in 2014, I was able to land a job in GMA Network, Inc. – one of the biggest broadcasting networks in the country.
I was hired as a Program Researcher for Investigative Documentaries, which was then hosted by veteran journalist Ms. Malou Mangahas. Our program, otherwise known as ID, produced in-depth reports tackling environmental and socio-political issues.
As a program researcher, one of my primary tasks is to prepare comprehensive research that would serve as the backbone of every news story. My task also includes doing pre-interviews with case studies and resource persons, coordinating video shoot schedule and itineraries, and pitching possible topics for long-term projects. Bulk of my task involves community immersions that require documentation of compelling human stories.
I was promoted to a segment producer post for the same program more than a year later. Central to my job is the supervision of the overall production process of each news report for Investigative Documentaries. This includes preparation of the storyline, scriptwriting, video shoot, interview with resource persons, and edit supervising.
A few episodes that I produced, together with my teammates, bagged awards and recognitions from local and international award-giving bodies. These include recognition from the US International Film and Video Awards and the New York Festivals and accolades given by the UP Community Broadcaster’s Society and the De La Salle University. Notable news reports that my team and I have worked on also recorded one of the highest TV ratings for the program while a portion of news reports or segments are constantly making rounds online garnering more than 1 million views across various social media platforms.
I shifted to government work, particularly to the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process or OPAPP, in 2017. The agency is mandated to negotiate and implement peace agreements with former rebel groups.
As a writer, I was tasked to develop communication materials which include press releases, talk points, speech, scripts, photo stories, communication plans. Moreover, I was assigned to oversee the production of video collaterals relating to the agency’s messaging and campaign. I also provided coverage on activities mounted by our office or those in which the agency had participation.
My stay in OPAPP was underscored by community immersions that we did in in the far-flung regions of Mindanao to campaign for the passage and ratification of the Bangsamoro Organic Law in 2018. A communication campaign coined “Peace Buzz: Byaheng Kapayapaan” was also launched by our team which bagged the best campaign award for Issues Management and Crisis Communications category in the 16th Philippine Quill Awards.
I am currently working as a senior content writer for the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, the export promotions authority of the Department of Trade and Industry. As a writer, I take part in the implementation of integrated marketing communication strategies to foster a competitive environment for
Apart from this, I am taking up Juris Doctor at the PLM – College of Law after d
