About NRG
NRG is a premier solar installation company based in California. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, code-compliant, and cutting-edge residential and commercial solar and Energy Storage System (ESS) solutions. As we continue to scale our operations, we are seeking a highly meticulous Electrical Engineer to join our international team remotely to lead our design solutions, provide drafting direction, and oversee quality control.
Position Overview
In this role, you will wear two hats: acting as our elite problem-solver for complex solar layouts and serving as our final line of defense for quality control. You won't just review plans; you will actively engineer solutions for our most challenging projects and direct our drafting team on how to execute them flawlessly.
Your focus will primarily be on residential solar + storage systems, with occasional commercial project engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Complex Solution Engineering: Take the lead on complex, custom, or non-standard residential and commercial projects. Analyze site constraints and engineer the absolute best electrical and structural solutions for optimal system performance.
Drafter Direction & Mentorship: Create clear design layouts and provide explicit instructions, markups, and guidance to our drafting team on exactly how to assemble and structure the final plansets.
Plan Review & Quality Control: Perform rigorous QC checks on completed electrical and structural plansets to ensure they are flawless before submission.
Technical Auditing: Verify single-line diagrams (SLDs), three-line diagrams, conduit/wire sizing, string sizing, voltage drop calculations, and main panel breaker ratings.
Code Compliance: Ensure all designs align seamlessly with the National Electrical Code (NEC), California Electrical Code, and local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) / Utility guidelines.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
US Solar Experience: Minimum of 2–3+ years of direct experience designing or reviewing US-based solar PV and ESS (battery backup) projects.
Codes Knowledge: Deep operational familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and California utility/AHJ interconnect standards.
Project Profile: Proven track record handling complex residential designs. Experience with commercial solar systems is a significant plus.
Software Expertise: Strong proficiency in AutoCAD or similar solar design/drafting software. Direct experience using Aurora Solar is a major advantage.
Leadership Skills: Ability to clearly direct, communicate, and hand off design concepts to drafting teams.
Work Setup: Reliable, high-speed internet connection, a capable engineering-grade workstation, and a professional, quiet remote working environment.
Communication: Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.
What We Offer
Competitive Remote Pay: $5-$15 USD per hour, scaled based on your depth of experience and technical expertise.
100% Remote Flexibility: Work from the comfort of your home in the Philippines or Armenia.
Stable Pipeline: Consistent, reliable workflow from a well-established, growing California installer.
Professional Growth: Opportunity to take ownership of complex engineering challenges and lead design direction alongside an elite international team.
