About the Role
We're hiring a remote Manufacturing Design Engineer to embed with the engineering and tooling team of a manufacturing company. This is a hands-on execution role: clean, accurate, manufacturable CAD and documentation, delivered remotely and on time, so the on-site team can move faster. Physical validation stays on-site. You'll work across two lanes—design/engineering and manufacturing—shifting between them as priorities require.
What You'll Do
• Convert 3D scan point cloud data into clean, manufacturable 3D models in SolidWorks
• Create and modify 3D CAD models and generate detailed 2D manufacturing prints with GD&T, dimensions, tolerances, and BOMs
• Support the design of tooling, fixtures, gauges, and other manufacturing aids from dimensions and reference photos
• Build and format clear work instructions in a digital work instruction platform (VKS)
• Run time studies from recorded operations and produce structured outputs the on-site team can act on
• Execute work through the company's engineering ticketing system as an embedded extension of the team
What We're Looking For
Non-Negotiables
• Strong SolidWorks proficiency (3D modeling, 2D prints, GD&T-compliant documentation)
• Mechanical engineering degree or equivalent tenured design experience
• Solid grasp of drafting standards, manufacturing processes, and tolerancing
• Strong technical writing and high attention to detail
• Ability to work autonomously and communicate clearly over async channels
Preferred Qualifications
• Tooling/fixture design, reverse engineering, or 3D scan post-processing experience
• Familiarity with VKS or similar work instruction platforms (training provided)
• Time and motion study experience
