JOB OVERVIEW

Workflow Automation Engineer

Contractor | Remote | ~10 hrs/week | USD $6–$12/hr | Start 29/06/2026

Praxis Partners runs digital operations inside mid-market businesses. We are looking for a mid-to-senior automation engineer who can independently scope, build, and maintain workflow automations and system integrations across our internal operations and client engagements. This is a long-term remote engagement for someone who thinks in process logic, works without close supervision, and documents everything they build.

The role:

You will own the full automation delivery cycle: discover the process, baseline the manual state, scope the solution, build and test, deploy, document, and monitor. You are not handed a spec and told to execute. You are expected to translate a business problem into a technical solution, ask one round of clarifying questions, and deliver.

You will report to the Head of Technology. Overlap with AEST business hours is required.

What you will do:
- Analyse existing workflows to find automation opportunities and document the current state before any build begins
- Design workflow logic: triggers, conditions, branching, error handling, and fallback paths
- Build and maintain automations using n8n, Make, Zapier and Python, selecting the right approach for each use case
- Connect and configure APIs, webhooks, and third-party integrations with appropriate authentication and error handling
- Test all solutions across expected, edge-case, and failure scenarios before deployment
- Set up monitoring and alerting so failures are caught before the business notices
- Document every automation in a central register with purpose, trigger, systems involved, and review date
- Maintain a clean, version-controlled workflow repository with no orphaned automations
- Communicate solution designs and outcomes to non-technical stakeholders in business terms

What you need

Required:

- 3–6 years of experience delivering end-to-end automation and integration solutions
- Hands-on proficiency with n8n and Make (Integromat)
- Scripting ability in Python for custom logic and data transformation
- Experience designing multi-system integrations with error handling, logging, and monitoring
- Ability to read API documentation and build authenticated API connections without support
- Demonstrated ability to translate a business requirement into a scoped technical solution without close supervision
- Experience with version control and maintaining a clean, documented automation codebase
- Strong written communication skills for async documentation and stakeholder updates

Preferred:
- Experience integrating AI and LLM tooling into automated workflows
- Familiarity with Notion as a documentation and task management platform
- Knowledge of BPMN 2.0 or equivalent process modelling notation
- Exposure to data pipeline tools: Airbyte, dbt, or similar
- Understanding of data privacy obligations relevant to automated data flows (Australian Privacy Act or GDPR)
