Role Overview:
As a Senior WordPress Developer at Shakewell, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, launching, and maintaining dynamic websites and web applications using the WordPress platform. You will build custom themes, plugins, and integrations to meet a variety of business requirements. You are passionate about creating user-friendly, high-performance websites and have a strong focus on understanding business objectives to enhance user experience and engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and implement websites and web applications using WordPress.
Build custom WordPress themes and plugins tailored to business needs.
Work with modern WordPress development tools, such as TailPress (Tailwind CSS for WordPress themes) and Bedrock (for WordPress site management).
Utilise Tailwind CSS for building efficient, scalable, and responsive designs within WordPress projects.
Develop, customise, and optimise e-commerce solutions using WooCommerce for online stores.
Write modular, maintainable code following WordPress coding standards.
Test and debug frontend and backend functionalities to ensure performance and usability.
Manage and optimise WordPress databases, primarily using MySQL.
Ensure smooth integration of third-party services, APIs, and other digital tools.
Develop and implement server-side logic for processing frontend inputs.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve bugs in the codebase.
Collaborate with designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.
Maintain high security standards, including input validation and parameterization for database queries.
Write unit test cases to verify code performance and prevent security breaches.
Continuously monitor and update live websites to ensure their optimal performance.
Communicate technical progress and updates clearly to the product manager.
Participate actively in troubleshooting, debugging, and maintaining live applications.
Must Haves:
At least 5 years of experience working with WordPress.
Expertise in building custom WordPress themes and plugins.
Experience with WooCommerce for e-commerce website development.
Experience with TailPress, Tailwind CSS, and Bedrock for advanced WordPress development.
Experience with JavaScript frameworks such as React.
Proficiency in MySQL database design and SQL.
Strong understanding of responsive design and mobile-first development principles.
Experience integrating with third-party RESTful APIs.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Expertise in web development technologies, architectures, and emerging trends.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS.
Advanced proficiency with Git version control.
Excellent communication skills in English (both written and spoken).
A highly motivated and sharp personality with a drive for excellence.
