We're building Rovexa, an AI fitness app for iOS and Android. The website's live, the first features already run on real Supabase, and I'm pushing hard toward launch. This is our first senior engineering hire, and whoever does it well ends up leading the technology side as the company grows. We plan to grow quickly.
## What you'd work on
Workout tracking, nutrition logging with photo-to-calorie (a thousand apps already do this, we do the same), and the feature I care about most: an AI coach that remembers a user's training, sleep, food, and what they wrote in their journal, then coaches off all of it.
Users are able to have voice-chats with the coach based on data they have entered (LLM or Text-to-speech API). App needs to have integrations with popular health apps (Apple Health, Android Health, Strava, Whoop etc.)
You'd own these end to end, backend to UI.
## You'd be a strong fit if you
- At least 3+ years of mobile app development experience
- Have shipped React Native / Expo apps in TypeScript
- Know Supabase properly: Postgres, Row Level Security, Storage, Edge Functions
- Write clean, modular code and are comfortable with Git branches and pull requests
- Have wired up LLM or vision APIs before (OpenAI, Gemini, Claude). Big plus, since the coach and the photo logging lean on it.
- Train/workout yourself *(optional)*. You don't need to be a competitive athlete, but if you understand what people want from a fitness app, it shows in what you build. This matters to us more than it might sound.
## Why take this role
It's early, so there's real ownership here and a clear path to leading the team as we hire. You'd work directly with me, ship quickly, and see your work reach real users soon. Pay is per milestone, scoped and agreed up front, and paid on time. Bonuses will be applied as well for exceptional performance.
Most likely a full-time role will follow for app maintenance and user requested features.
The founder has built other companies successfully already, so you will be working with someone knowledgeable.
Job Type - Remote · contract to start, growing into a lead full-time role.
## To apply
Skip the cover letter. Just answer these three, briefly:
1. How would you build barcode food logging for this app? Walk me through the table and its Row Level Security, the screens, and a couple of edge cases. A short paragraph is plenty, and tell me one or two things you'd ask me before starting.
2. What's a feature you've shipped that used an AI or external API, and what was the tricky part?
3. Do you train? One line is fine.
If you're shortlisted, I'll send a small paid trial task. I pay for your time on that, always. If it goes well, we talk properly about the role.
