Project Reviewer - Civil Site Design & Utilities
Modern Engineering Solutions, LLC | Fully Remote - Global Opportunity
You'll Be Perfect For This Role If:
You're an engineering professional with 4-8 years of experience, and you're frustrated with how most firms handle quality control. Maybe you're tired of:
? Being rushed through reviews to meet arbitrary deadlines
? Finding the same mistakes repeatedly because no one learns from feedback
? The "just get it approved" mentality that treats QA as an afterthought
? Being stuck in an office when the work doesn't require it
? Firms that talk about quality but punish thoroughness with tighter deadlines
You want to work on projects that matter—commercial developments that shape how communities grow, utility systems that serve reliably for decades—and you want to do it right, without cutting corners.
You're open to using modern tools (including AI) to streamline documentation, and you understand that protecting time for thorough review is how you catch problems before they become expensive failures.
What We Believe
Here's how we run things differently:
? We Focus on Getting It Right, Not Getting It Done Fast
Your value isn't how many plan sets you can rush through—it's the problems you catch before they reach clients or construction. A review that prevents a $200K construction error or catches a code violation before permit submittal? That's worth more than logging extra review hours.
? Quality Can't Be Rushed
We give reviewers the time they need to do thorough work. Time-to-delivery matters, but not at the expense of catching critical errors. We treat quality review as an engineering constraint, not an afterthought.
? Deep Work Over Busy Work
We protect your calendar. No back-to-back meetings. No "quick syncs" that break your concentration. Reviewers need uninterrupted time to systematically work through designs—that's where you catch the subtle problems that matter.
? AI Handles the Grunt Work
We use AI for formatting review comments, tracking standard items, and generating markup templates. You still do all the technical judgment and critical review—AI makes mistakes—but it frees you up to handle 10 projects instead of 2.
? We Grow Carefully
We're not chasing debt-fueled growth. We'd rather expand slowly with cash reserves so we can maintain quality standards and give reviewers adequate time for thorough work.
? We Keep Learning
"That's how we've always done it" isn't good enough. We're constantly refining our review processes, learning from mistakes, and getting better at catching problems early.
What You'll Do
Conduct systematic quality assurance reviews of civil site designs and utility infrastructure:
? Review commercial site development plans including grading, drainage, paving, and utility layouts for technical accuracy and code compliance
? Analyze plan sets, stormwater calculations, and hydraulic analyses to identify errors and improvement opportunities
? Verify compliance with municipal design standards, state regulations, and local development criteria
? Conduct constructability reviews to ensure designs can actually be built as intended
? Prepare detailed review summaries with clear, actionable feedback
? Work directly with Project Managers and Engineers to resolve technical issues
? Review water, sewer, and stormwater system designs for functionality and compliance
? Maintain and update quality control checklists and review procedures
? Support permit application reviews to ensure regulatory compliance
? Help junior engineers learn from review feedback to improve future designs
What You Need
Required:
? Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
? 4-8 years in civil site design, commercial development, or project review
? Strong understanding of site grading, drainage design, stormwater management, and utility systems
? Knowledge of US municipal design standards, stormwater regulations, and development criteria
? Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for plan review and markup creation
? Excellent English language skills for effective communication with US-based teams
? Demonstrated attention to detail with systematic approach to identifying technical issues
? Strong communication skills—you can explain technical problems clearly
Preferred:
? Experience with US-based commercial development projects
? Familiarity with stormwater modeling software (Hydro CAD, Storm CAD, SSA)
? Background in construction or field engineering
? Track record of improving design quality through systematic review feedback
? Understanding of plat preparation and subdivision design processes
About Us
Modern Engineering Solutions isn't another civil engineering firm stuck in the old ways.
We built this company because we were tired of watching quality control get treated as a box to check instead of a critical safeguard. Tired of seeing reviewers rushed through projects just to hit billable hour targets. Tired of firms that say "quality matters" but don't give reviewers the time or tools to actually ensure it.
Since 2018, we've completed 265+ projects by doing things differently. Our team works remotely, uses AI to handle the busywork, and focuses on what matters: delivering error-free site designs that protect communities and serve clients well. No unnecessary meetings. No office politics. Just thorough, systematic quality assurance.
What We Offer
Work Environment:
? 100% remote work from anywhere with reliable internet
? Flexible scheduling that accommodates your time zone
? Training on our cloud-based systems and AI tools
? Microsoft Teams for collaboration, SharePoint for document management
? Top-tier hardware and software we don't cheap out on tools
Compensation & Benefits:
? Salary: $30,000–$45,000 annually (adjusted based on location and experience)
? Professional development and mentorship opportunities
? Support for technical training and skill development
? Clear path to grow into senior review or technical leadership roles
Leadership & Impact:
? Work with experienced US-licensed PEs who value thorough review
? Real input on improving our quality control processes
? Help us prove there's a better way to ensure infrastructure quality
Why This Matters
Right now, most commercial development projects get reviewed just enough to avoid obvious disasters. Subtle design problems slip through. Code violations get caught by plan reviewers instead of internal QA. Construction errors cost clients hundreds of thousands because no one caught the conflicts in design.
We're changing that.
When you join us, you're proving that thorough quality assurance doesn't require sacrificing schedule or budget—it just requires giving reviewers the time and tools to do their job right. You're showing that systematic review processes catch problems early, when they're cheap to fix.
From warehouse developments to mixed-use communities, your reviews will ensure infrastructure that works reliably for decades and you'll do it without burning out from impossible deadlines.
This Role Isn't For Everyone
We're probably not the right fit if you:
? Want to rush through reviews to maximize throughput (we value thoroughness)
? Think AI has no place in engineering (we use it extensively)
? See QA as a box to check rather than a critical safeguard (we take it seriously)
? Believe "that's how we've always done it" ends the discussion (we're constantly improving)
But if you're tired of the old model and ready for something better—where quality actually matters more than speed, where modern tools eliminate busywork, and where working remotely doesn't limit your career—let's talk.
