AI Agent Engineer (E-Commerce Automation)

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and forward-thinking AI Agent Engineer to design, build, and deploy an autonomous AI agent tailored for our e-commerce platform. In this role, you will be responsible for creating an intelligent system that seamlessly handles end-to-end order flows (tracking, modifications, returns) and resolves customer service queries with high accuracy and a natural, brand-consistent voice.

The ideal candidate bridges the gap between advanced Machine Learning (LLMs, RAG) and practical software engineering, ensuring the AI agent is deeply integrated with our existing e-commerce stack.

Key Responsibilities

1. Agent Architecture & Development
Design and deploy robust AI agents using frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, or AutoGPT.

Implement advanced orchestration techniques, including tool use (function calling), multi-agent collaboration, and self-correction loops.
Optimize the agent's reasoning capabilities to handle complex, multi-step customer journeys.

2. E-Commerce Integration & Order Flow Automation
Connect the AI agent to our e-commerce backend (e.g., Shopify, WooCommerce, or custom APIs) and ERP/inventory systems.
Automate transactional workflows such as:
Checking order status and tracking packages.
Processing cancellations, returns, and refunds based on company policy.
Modifying shipping addresses or order items post-purchase.

3. Customer Query Resolution & RAG
Build and maintain a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline using vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Milvus, Qdrant) to ground the agent in our FAQs, return policies, and product catalogs.
Ensure the agent provides accurate, empathetic, and context-aware responses to diverse customer inquiries.
Implement smart handoff protocols to gracefully escalate complex or sensitive issues to human support agents.

4. Evaluation, Guardrails, & Optimization
Establish rigorous evaluation frameworks to monitor agent accuracy, latency, and hallucination rates.
Implement strict guardrails (e.g., NeMo Guardrails, Llama Guard) to ensure data privacy, security, and alignment with brand guidelines.
Continuously fine-tune prompts and system instructions based on real-world user interaction logs.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Requirements
Programming: Proficient in Python or TypeScript/Node.js.
AI/LLMs: Deep understanding of Large Language Models (OpenAI API, Anthropic Claude, open-source models like Llama) and prompt engineering techniques.
Frameworks: Hands-on experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar agentic workflows.
Data & APIs: Strong experience working with RESTful/GraphQL APIs, webhooks, and JSON data handling.
Databases: Experience with vector databases and SQL/NoSQL systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience building production-grade AI chatbots or autonomous agents.
Familiarity with e-commerce platforms (Shopify API is a major plus) and customer service software (Zendesk, Gorgias, Intercom).
Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and CI/CD pipelines for AI applications.
