About the Role
I’m hiring a Data Engineer to help maintain, operate, and extend existing data pipelines across several production systems.
This role is hands-on and execution-driven. You will work primarily on Python-based ETLs, PostgreSQL databases, and integrations with third-party APIs running on AWS infrastructure.
You will not be asked to invent systems from scratch or make business decisions. Your job is to keep pipelines healthy, fix issues quickly, and implement well-defined changes accurately.
ech Stack
You will work daily with:
• Python (ETL scripts, API ingestion, utilities)
• PostgreSQL (queries, schema changes, data validation)
• AWS (EC2, RDS, S3)
• Third-party APIs (data ingestion, pagination, retries, rate limits)
• GitHub (pull requests, code reviews)
• Sigma Computing (validating outputs, basic dashboard checks)
Core Responsibilities
• Maintain and operate existing Python ETL pipelines
• Debug and fix failed jobs (API errors, schema mismatches, data issues)
• Add fields or sources to existing ingestion pipelines
• Write and update SQL queries in PostgreSQL
• Execute backfills and reprocessing jobs safely
• Monitor data freshness, completeness, and basic quality checks
• Handle API pagination, retries, and edge cases
• Deploy changes to AWS-hosted environments
• Keep documentation and runbooks up to date
What You Will Not Do
• Design new data architectures from scratch
• Make product or business logic decisions
• Change pipeline logic without clear requirements
• “Wing it” when instructions are unclear
Required Skills & Experience
• Strong Python for data work (ETLs, APIs, scripts)
• Strong PostgreSQL (joins, aggregations, indexes, data modeling basics)
• Experience working with REST APIs in production
• Comfortable debugging production issues
• Experience working on Linux servers
• Familiar with Git and pull request workflows
• Clear written English and strong attention to detail
