3D Character Modeler (Toys & Animatronics)
Position Type: Contract / Project-Based (with potential for Full-Time)
About the Role:
We are looking for a highly skilled 3D Character Modeler to bring unique characters, toys, and animatronics to life. In this role, you will bridge the gap between creative design and physical manufacturing. A major focus will be interpreting 2D character concepts and translating them into accurate, expressive 3D sculpts, particularly for animatronic heads and hands.
This position will start on a project-by-project basis, allowing us to evaluate the working relationship and pipeline fit, with the strong potential to transition into a full-time role for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
* Expertly interpret and translate 2D concept art into highly detailed, expressive 3D character sculpts.
* Sculpt specialized components for physical production, with a heavy emphasis on animatronic heads and hands.
* Engineer and optimize 3D sculpts for injection molding and blow molding (managing draft angles, parting lines, wall thickness, and interior clearances for mechanical components).
* Slice, key, and hollow models to ensure they are 100% production-ready for the factory floor.
* Collaborate closely with art directors, product engineers, and manufacturing partners to troubleshoot designs and ensure the final physical product matches the original 2D vision.
Requirements:
* Exceptional portfolio showcasing strong character design, anatomy, and the ability to accurately translate 2D concepts into 3D space.
* Expert-level proficiency in ZBrush, equivalent 3D software.
* Proven, hands-on experience engineering digital models for physical manufacturing (specifically injection and blow molding).
Bonus Points:
* A strong passion and talent for designing and sculpting monsters, creatures, and mutants.
To Apply:
Please submit your resume, rates, and a link to your portfolio. Note: Portfolios must include examples of 2D-to-3D translations as well as production-ready, engineered sculpts (showing wireframes, cuts, keys, or draft analysis), not just beauty renders.
